Over 1,000 letters delivered to SBOE
NJEA members come through
Published on Wednesday, March 5, 2014

Speak outNJEA members, parents and other education advocates have submitted 1,037 letters, and counting, to the State Board of Education, detailing major problems with evaluation and testing in New Jersey’s public schools.

Those letters were delivered today, but the work is just starting. Together, we are going to keep telling your stories to the State Board, the Department of Education and legislators, until the people in power take action to fix what they’ve broken. You deserve it, your students and children deserve it, and together we are going to make it happen.

You can still submit your letter here. It will be delivered to members of the State Board of Education and used in our campaign to make sure the Department of Education listens to the voices of educators and parents who know first-hand what is happening in or schools.

Your letter should share your personal experiences with evaluation, SGOs, SGPs, the transition to PARCC, and the effect of high-stakes testing on students, families and educators. The more personal your story, and the more connected it is to children, the better. Here is a list of questions to spur your thinking as you write.
